LACCA’s regional meetings attract general counsel from the region's most important companies for high-level discussion of the key issues involved in running a legal department in Latin America today.

This year’s programme includes a session on how to handle data breaches and hacking.  Cyber-criminals are getting smarter and security demands are getting tougher. With so much at stake, the first panel of the day examines how legal teams can be part of the front-line defence.

Alongside cyber-attacks, in-house counsel must also be prepared for the fallout from potential misconduct by employees. The prospect of an investigation can be bewildering and this panel will serve to provide attendees with a guide to handling them. Industry experts will discuss how best to respond following the discovery of fraud or bribery without breaking the bank.

After a networking lunch, attendees will reconvene for a discussion about promoting a diverse workforce. In the era of #metoo, should company policies and procedures for dealing with claims of discrimination and harassment be revisited? Panellists will discuss what GCs can do to ensure that employees are fully aware of what is appropriate workplace conduct and lay out best practices when it comes to responding to bullying, discrimination and harassment claims.

The penultimate panel has been structured to evaluate the scope of legal departments’ influence in the companies they serve. Speakers will strive to show how GCs and their legal teams can have a greater impact on the business and improve relations with stakeholders by using KPIs to demonstrate value.

Finally, the audience will gain an insight into how to successfully bring a transaction to close. Leading deal-makers will share their secrets to leveraging the power of legal in negotiations, as well as offering solutions to some of the challenges that most frequently crop up in M&A deals.

LACCA will also hold its 5th Annual Awards Ceremony on the same evening. Please visit the website for further details.
