4:30pm Arrival and welcome coffee

Getting the most from external counsel

The balance of power is shifting in the legal world. Clients are now very firmly in the driver’s seat when it comes to relationships with external counsel and GCs are much more comfortable shopping around to find the best fit. The opening discussion of the roundtable will focus on strategies to ensure GCs are getting the best value from their law firms including the benefits of using RFPs, setting organisational objectives, utilising alternative fee arrangements as well as monitoring and feedback.

Technological innovation in-house

Technology investment is a key priority for in-house legal teams all over Latin America, with departments keen to improve efficiency while also being able to demonstrate value. This discussion will focus on how GCs can harness legal technology to work smarter while reducing costs, including benefits of implementing matter management and document automation tools as well as new trends including AI and blockchain.

Promoting diversity and inclusion in Chile

The concepts of diversity and inclusion have become increasingly important in Chilean society over the past few years, but the country remains behind others in Latin American when it comes to the number of women in senior positions. While significant progress has been made, particularly in the private sector where an increasing number of companies have been implementing policies designed to promote greater diversity in the workplace, there is still a long way to go. The final discussion will focus on ways in which GCs can help promote greater diversity in-house, including tackling unconscious bias, establishing a truly inclusive work environment and practical policies for legal teams.
