News in Brief – 24 August


This month’s news in brief takes a look at Brazil’s new data protection regulations. In Mexico, steelmaker AHMSA has reportedly paid millions in bribes to a Brazilian shell company. Meanwhile in Venezuela, President Maduro has created the new “sovereign bolivar” in an effort to combat growing inflation, and US company ConocoPhillips have reached a US$52 billion settlement with state-owned PDVSA.
