Ricardo M Arango joined Arias, Fabrega & Fabrega (ARIFA) in 1987 and became a partner in 1995. He heads the firm's capital markets and banking, and the M&A and corporate practice groups.

Mr Arango's practice focuses on capital markets, banking and finance, M&A and corporate taxation.

Widely recognised as Panama’s leading banking expert for many years, he has also participated in many of the country’s landmark capital market deals and largest M&A transactions. Mr Arango has been instrumental in creating many of the financial structures now common in Panama, leading the Presidential Commissions that drafted Panama’s securities act and drafted the rules of operation of LatinClear, Panama’s clearing and settlement agency.

Mr Arango is director of the Panama Canal Authority; director of Banco General, Panama’s largest bank; director of Bladex, the only NYSE-listed Panamanian bank; former direct of Corporación La Prensa; former director and chairman of the Panama Stock Exchange; and member of Consejo Empresarial de América Latina (CEAL).

Mr Arango has been recognised as a leading lawyer by independent legal directories such as Chambers, IFLR 1000 and Who's Who Legal. He was named a “Star Lawyer” in Panama by Chambers Global 2011 and is the only Panamanian lawyer to receive the ILO Client Choice Award (2011 and 2012).

Mr Arango has a master of laws from Yale Law School, a master of laws from Harvard Law School and a bachelor of laws from the University of Panama.

He is admitted to practise in Panama and New York.
