Ricardo M Arango joined Arias, Fabrega & Fabrega (ARIFA) in 1987 and became a partner in 1995. He heads the firm's capital markets and banking, and the M&A and corporate practice groups.

Mr Arango's practice focuses on capital markets, banking and finance, M&A and corporate taxation.

Widely recognised as Panama’s leading banking expert for many years, he has also participated in many of the country’s landmark capital market deals and largest M&A transactions. Mr Arango has been instrumental in creating many of the financial structures now common in Panama, leading the Presidential Commissions that drafted Panama’s securities act and drafted the rules of operation of LatinClear, Panama’s clearing and settlement agency.

Mr Arango is member of the board of directors of the Panama Canal Authority; director and former chairman of the Panama Stock Exchange; corporate secretary of Bladex, the only NYSE-listed Panamanian bank; director of Banco General, Panama’s largest bank; former director of Corporación La Prensa; and member of Consejo Empresarial de América Latina (CEAL).

Mr Arango has a Master of Laws from Yale Law School, a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Panama.

He is admitted to practise in Panama and New York.
